Whenever you are in a class with other people, there will be a multitude of different interests. I find that very fascinating, and tend to find myself drawn to interests that are opposite of my own. Because of the diverse people in this class, I had the opportunity to learn about a variety of subjects through both their online exhibits and their Pinterest boards.
I absolutely loved the layout of Christy’s exhibit about the book of birth of Iskandar. I loved especially the horoscopes tab as there were multiple little pictures depicting all of the symbols. I think this was an easy and effective way for someone like me who knows nothing about horoscopes to identify each one. I also appreciated on her Manuscripts page that she included all sides of the manuscripts and went into detail explaining each side. I wish that maybe she made her text bigger and maybe included more titles to describe each page. However, she really made me think about my online exhibit and how if maybe I included more smaller images throughout and smaller chunks of information it would have been easier to digest. I also fell in love with Asher’s exhibit on the comparisons between newspapers from pre-World War 1 versus during or after World War 1 in Estonia. I really liked the simple layout of this exhibit with only really a home page utilizing the picture option where you can flip through pictures easily. I think it really made the differences and similarities between the different news clips stand out. The descriptions were also very informative. Also, the your thoughts button below the exhibit was very thought out and well done.
In terms of the Pinterest boards, I especially loved both Susan’s and Donna’s projects. I was in awe with the simplicity of Susan’s board about early black women civil rights activists. Since my board was about women noble prize winners, I found it cool that our boards connected in some sort of way. I also loved the way she let the pictures speak for themselves. She chose very powerful photos, and I am really glad that they were not over explained yet gave me the right amount of information needed to thoroughly enjoy her board. In terms of Donna’s board, I find it very interesting that she has kept the same theme for all of her projects. Yet, her projects are not boring at all, instead they are very fascinating as she continuously gives the reader different viewpoints to think about. I also love her scrapbook approach to this particular board. It feels very welcoming, like anyone can learn about SPAR stories. For me in particular, WWII can be pretty daunting to learn about. Yet, she has made it super interesting and easy for me to understand.
All in all, I loved reading and exploring each of my classmates’ different Pinterest boards and online exhibits. I cannot wait to see everyone’s next project.
